Preabortion Visit: First consultation to determine suitability for the procedure. Please give the complete history including previous abortions, complications & other illnesses. This will guide the doctor to advise special investigations & special precautions. You will have to do complete blood count, blood group & ultrasonography before drugs are administered.
The patient should be accompanied by a responsible relative who can give consent. (Preferably husband) DON’T BE STARVING. Have a light snacks before coming to the clinic/hospital. The patient & her relative sign the consent form. The drug is given orally & patient will be observed for some time in the clinic/hospital.

History & clinical examination to determine complete termination of pregnancy. Ultrasonography, if required.
After subsequent menstrual period.
After taking drug on the first day some women experience vaginal bleeding. Most of the women expel products of conception within few hours after the administration of the second drug. You may experience certain side effects like pain, vomiting, feeling of warmth, chills, diarrhea, fatigue; but most are self limiting.
Take adequate rest & watch for vaginal bleeding. Abstain form intercourse or use barrier contraception (Condom). Report immediately to the hospital in case of excessive bleeding or pain.
95% of pregnancies abort completely. About 1% of women require surgical evacuation for heavy bleeding. 1% may fail to abort & in 2-3% abortion may be incomplete necessitating surgical evacuation.
In cases of failed or incomplete abortion surgical evacuation is necessary as the continuation of pregnancy may lead to birth defects in the child. Emergency curettage may be needed in case of heavy bleeding.
There may be a slight delay in the next period after the abortion. Report to the doctor in case you do not menstruate within 6 weeks of abortion.
